Duncan Sutherland leads Inpartnership as Managing Director. Duncan has been key in developing the overall Inpartnership model, working with local government partners, and has been at the forefront in setting up the successful partnerships currently on the company's books, such as in Solihull, Salford, and Leicester. Duncan works closely with the Government promoting this innovative approach to achieving regeneration.Previously, Duncan was Director of City Development for Coventry City Council where he introduced many innovations such as Coventry and Warwickshire Partnerships, city centre management, integrated community development and chaired the West Midlands Strategic Sites Working Group. He also achieved many city centre projects such as Coventry Canal Basin, Coventry University Science Park, various leisure and retail schemes and was heavily involved in the initial regeneration efforts in Hillfields working closely with the local community.
Duncan Sutherland has also worked at Inner City Enterprises PLC, responsible for major regeneration schemes in Manchester, Liverpool, and Nottingham, and was also the Chief Executive of The EDI Group Ltd, a specialist regeneration/property development company owned by the City of Edinburgh Council. The company had a net worth of around £80m and undertook projects including Edinburgh Park, industrial development and the re-instatement of listed buildings into beneficial use with a good income stream.
Specific projects within Duncan’s responsibility include:
- The integrated development plan and regeneration of Coventry City Centre resulting in joint venture projects totalling around £200m involving housing, retail, leisure and commercial developments.
- A partnership regeneration strategy for the Coventry canal corridor aimed at economic and environmental revitalisation and including Coventry canal basin a £20m project of offices, workshops, housing and business park.
- London Road Development Agency, Liverpool - The Agency involved the management and development of 70 acres of run down commercial estate on the edge of the city centre. Much of this programme has now been completed with a new, improved environment and new housing association, retail, health, industrial & commercial projects.
- Initial development strategy for Castlefields in Manchester leading to the formation of a Development Corporation
- The funding and development of various listed buildings such as Hunter Square, Cockburn St etc in Edinburgh
- Commercial projects involving local employment programmes, city centre management etc.
- A current Board Member of British Waterways
- A member of The Joseph Rowntree Foundation Area Regeneration Steering Group advising government on housing regeneration
- British Council of Offices Partnership Group
- Historic Burghs Association of Scotland Advisory Council
- Director of the UK Association of Town Centre Management for 7 years
- Member of the Government’s Task Force for the regeneration of seaside resorts in England
