North Solihull in Top 100 Regeneration Projects
Regenerating North Solihull has once again been named in Regeneration and Renewal's Top 100 Regeneration Projects for 2009, this year being placed 12th.
Built in the late 1960s, North Solihull is one of Europe's largest housing estates. A 15-year regeneration programme, led by the public-private North Solihull Partnership, includes housing, schools, village centres and community facilities. Since last year, committed public investment has grown from £210 million to £230 million - the extra money coming equally from the HCA and the European Regional Development Fund. Private investment has risen from £100 million to £116 million. Planning permission has been granted for 149 new homes, a new high street and the scheme's third new primary school. Planning applications have been submitted for a further 140 houses. In response to the recession, North Solihull Partnership has reviewed the housing elements, with the planned affordable housing proportion being raised from 21 percent to a planned 40 percent.
