Regeneration's Brave New World

Public sector landowners will develop their own sites, commissioning private sector developers to act as scheme managers, in the national regeneration agency's vision for the future.As housebuilders and developers go bust, limp on as the living dead in the hands of their bankers or focus on maximising profit margins by building executive detatched houses on greenfield sites, the national housing and regeneration agency is pursuing a radical strategy to reshape the housing market to achieve its twin aims of stimulating regeneration and housing supply.
The key elements of this new strategy are developing public sector land, using regeneration managers and contractors rather than developers, and forward selling the homes to housing associations and the new breed of private rented sector funds to remove the sales risk and allow bank loands to be raised.
